upcoming changes in GTU exams after JAVA paper leak case

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) is mulling over implementing changes in the examination process to minimize chances of copying. The university is deliberating the option of doing away with the system of giving password to observers to access question papers before exam begins and instead provide them with a link that can be opened 20 minutes before the exam. The current practice at GTU is to download the paper 45 minutes before the exam by the observers.
GTU is obviously rattled with the recent incident where an exam observer, Ankit Mehta, a lecturer with Alpha Engineering College of Ahmedabad was caught SMSing questions from the fifth semester university exam paper from his mobile phone to four of his students and also a teacher of his college, Nirav Gadhiya. Investigations have revealed that all the four students take tuitions from him, said GTU officials.
GTU officials believe that this paperleak network is much larger than just four students and a teacher. “Last year too we had doubts that the questions were being leaked. All exam centre officials were alerted about this possibility
and were asked to keep a watch on suspicious activities.     GTU officials said that so far engineering lecturers and assistant professors were given the password to download the question paper, take a print out and send it for copying 45 minutes before the exam. Officials are mulling to do away with this process from the next GTU exams and introduce a link which can be downloaded just 20 minutes before the exam.
Meanwhile, for ongoing exams, officials have also put on duty a non-technical observer who is an assistant professor or professor in non-engineering institutions to be present when the observer enters the password and downloads the question paper.
